I am Ross Johnston
I am a Quantum System Engineer at Craft Prospect who is focussed on the optical payload for our flagship VOLT mission. Prior to this, I was a PhD researcher in optical coatings and substrates for state-of-the-art large optics. This R&D work notably involved setting up novel photothermal and calorimetric techniques to characterise trace optical losses. The work will factor into the core-optics of gravitational wave detectors and will be shared more widely following the submission of my doctoral thesis in December 2024.
